So it's the second night of hockey. The Caps don't play until Saturday. I'm going to the Caps STH party tonight so... all this has been written up during lunch hour.
So far:
MONEYLINE: 4-0
O/U: 1-2-1 (tie means push, like the Rags-Hawks game)
7:00PM - WINNIPEG JETS VS BOSTON BRUINS
The Jets SURPRISINGLY made the playoffs last year. The Jets, according to the web, have never won in Boston. They won't tonight either. Since the most recent lockout, Rask has given up 1 goal per game to the Jets and the Bruins are hungry to prove they can score this year. Maybe they'll have a 30-goal scorer, but I doubt it'll be new guy Matt Beleskey, here's hoping Marchand decides to be less of a pest and more of a goal scorer. Chara is out, but it doesn't matter because these are the Jets.
MONEYLINE: BRUINS O/U: 5 Goals (UNDER)
7:00PM - OTTAWA SENATORS VS BUFFALO SABRES
I'm not going to lie, this is hard to gauge with the influx of new talent in Buffalo (there are guys not name Jack Eichel; Evander Kane, Ryan O' Reilly, etc.). The Hamburglar is out for a few weeks and the Sens will be facing former Sen Robyn Lehner, but I don't have a high opinion of him, so I'm banking on Craig Anderson, he's undefeated since the most recent lockout, against to help the Sens to win this one. I think both goalies are going to let in quite a few goals, but the Sens pull this out.
MONEYLINE: SENATORS O/U: 5 goals (OVER)
7:30PM - PHILADELPHIA FLYERS VS TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING
Steve Mason and Ben Bishop had some very good seasons last year. But I have the feeling that both offenses are going to come out and be a little bit lax on the defense, but of course, the Bolts have Victor Hedman, which is going to be the difference since the Flyers don't really have a good defenseman. (No, Streit is past his prime Flyers fans). Tyler Johnson is back, expect the Bolts to put up at least 4 goals, at least I am.
MONEYLINE: BOLTS O/U: 5.5 goals (OVER)
8:00PM - CAROLINA HURRICANES VS NASHVILLE PREDATORS
The Canes suck. Period. And they're going into the Bridgestone Arena against Rinne. I fully expect them to get shut down and potentially shut out. Noah Hanifin and Ryan Murphy might become a great pairing in two years, but that's in two years. Today, they're not going to get the minutes to significantly alter the game and Justin Faulk is the only other defenseman for them who is good. I could gush about how good the Preds are, but you should already know that. I'm still pissed about GMGM trading Filip Forsberg for another man's garbage.
MONEYLINE: PREDS O/U:5 goals (UNDER)
8:00PM - EDMONTON OILERS VS ST. LOUIS BLUES
The Oilers have a ton of talent up front spear-headed by Connor McDavid (RNH, Yakupov, Hall...) and then you look at the rest of their team and it's not that good. The Blues are a well-oiled machine who know how to forecheck and make it hurt. Connor McDavid is going to probably get run over by David Backes at some point (is that a prop bet?). I honestly think that the Cam Talbot is a good goalie, but the defense in front of him is going to screw him over. Also, Dmitij Jaskin should make his presence known.
MONEYLINE: BLUES O/U: 5.5 goals (OVER)
8:30PM - PITTSBURGH PENGUINS VS DALLAS STARS
I'm legitimately excited to see the Stars' new stars (see what I did there?). Same with how overrated Phil Kessel is. He might hit 40 goals, but it's really going to be similar to how James Neal scored 40 goals a few years back. I also think Fleury sucks and the defense in front of him (namely Ian Cole, Ben Lovejoy, and Rob Scuderi) essentially skating with 1.5 defensemen every time they go out.
MONEYLINE: STARS O/U: 5.5 goals (OVER)
9:00PM - MINNESOTA WILD VS COLORADO AVALANCHE (NBCSN)
The two teams that are hosting Stadium Series outdoor games will be facing off (marketing, duh!). The Avs are looking to get back to the playoffs while the Wild made a surprise run to the second round last year. Last year these teams met up in Xcel and Varly got lit up like a Christmas tree. The year before that, the Avs blew the series against the Wild, so I'm thinking Varly's lost his mojo against the Wild. Just my two cents.
MONEYLINE: WILD O/U: 5 goals (UNDER)
